"Managing flexibility" is the competence claim of the Witzenmann Group. Founded in 1854 as a jewellery manufacturer, it was in 1885 that Heinrich Witzenmann laid the basis for today’s metal hose and expansion joint industry with the invention of the metal hose.

An important factor in the cooperation with the customer is the technical advice provided by our local sales and application engineers with the support of competence center located at the Group Headquarters in Pforzheim (Germany). Within this competence center a large group of experienced and creative engineers continually develop products and processes to support both existing & new applications.

Initial Situation

Since the end of the nineties the Witzenmann GmbH in Pforzheim, head office of the Witzenmann Group, has been using in its Engineering sector the data exchange manager of a well-known provider together with a DAXware OFTP date exchange frontend of the HÜNGSBERG GmbH.

In 2012 the DAXware, advanced in years by now, has been replaced by the successor engDAX, particularly as in the meantime data exchange via OFTP2 became an essential demand. Jürgen Rausch, IT manager and responsible for the data exchange system at Witzenmann liked immediately the engDAX system, as it complied with his idea of a practicable, secure and intuitively operable solution. So the idea was born to test, if in using engDAX the data exchange manager, mentioned before, could entirely be replaced.


After one year the project has been launched. Mr Rausch composed an ample catalogue of requirements for HÜNGSBERG. After just one week Helmut Blechert, our head of sales was able to present a concrete initial solution based on the engDAX standard functions. After one month a conception of the connection to the conversion service of the former provider has been accomplished. Due to the flexible design of engDAX the realization succeeded without special development.  

This first milestone was followed by the quotation phase with the agreement to budget the project for 2014. The second milestone was the verification of the database of the data exchange manager and the concept design for the taking over of the master data, followed by the see-off of the product specifications and finally the order. In November the changeover operations started with the objective to finish them by the 31st January 2015.

Change over and production start-up

The changeover operations started in January 2015 by preparatory activities via remote servicing. Included were administrator instructions, to give the customer the chance to familiarize with the system and to support the change actively. At an on-site-date in Pforzheim on 30th January, 2015 final activities had been carried out so that the system could start in due time the productive phase on the following Monday. Due to excellent development and preparations the new engDAX solution fulfilled the high expectations right from the start. The change was carried out seamless without any breaks of the system availability. 

Solution and advantages

Now the users dispose over a lean and simply manageable system. Also easily and first of all fast can activities like the setup of new ODETTE connections be performed without any external assistance. In the framework of an additional make-and-take-order, which supplements the maintenance contract, closed with HÜNGSBERG GmbH, additional support* work by the HÜNGSBERG service team can be ordered on demand without any formalities.
